2025.11.16 Reported: Homeland Security Missions Falter Amid Focus on Deportations - New York Times

The New York Times reports that DHS has diverted thousands of agents from core missions to immigration enforcement, significantly weakening investigations into child exploitation, human smuggling, sex trafficking, money laundering, and terrorism financing. Internal documents and interviews show that specialists who normally pursue child predators, transnational crime, and national-security threats have instead been reassigned to arrest undocumented immigrants, transport detainees, and staff deportation efforts. The shift has reduced time spent on critical cases, delayed training across DHS, and diverted Coast Guard aircraft to immigration operations.
